I planted up my lawn with bulbs last autumn and the show has been tremendous.,everything but the fritillaria came up really stunning. luckily I have some in pots which i can transplant once they have finished flowering. I did put bulbs in my fridge for about 8 weeks as our winters are becoming very mild here in London
Irises are my favorite, my mother and other family members had them. I fell in love at a very young age, I'm going to start collecting some each year. My mother is gone but the memories spark when I see them blooming. Thank you for your videos, I appreciate you. Oh and I just got 20 Dutch Iris bulbs, can't wait until bloom time ❤
Omg that name of the cultivar "paprikas" killed me 😂😂 It's actually a name of a dish typical for Central Europe and it has similar color as the flowers of that iris cultivar 😁
I went to the swamp, saw the bird nests built between the cat tails, saw bluish speckled eggs and a big Willow Tree, all of which are fascinating, to any child. I picked some intricate Irises in blue and purple and brought them home to my Mother. I did my best, with my bouquets. These Irises which you have found, make you want to pick up the whole Earth and give it a congratulatory squeeze. 😂 Can Sander please fast forward, to when they bloom? The Gazebo will never lose it's magical charm.
I love these - I have several, along with the more showy German Irises which do spectacularly here in Central Virginia. I was gifted them by another local gardener. Just be on the watch for slugs; I have several toad houses nearby - with the pond nearby, you could encourage your local toads to make homes by upturning some broken pots near the irises for some shelter. The geese will help with slugs, too.
I love Siberian irises, I have ‘Gull’s Wing’, a beautiful pure white with faint lavender on the buds. After a few years it is so easy to separate small pieces to transplant in other areas, they are so hardy too. Next you need to check out the gorgeous Japanese Iris ensata…oh my! 🌱
Also perhaps put in some yellow Iris acorus near the pond edge to naturalize, they also do well in tubs. And have you seen Louisana Iris, especially ‘Black Gamecock’, amazing when the sun shines on the petals. And the strange Starfish Iris, Ferraria crispa… needless to say I love Iris. I’m sure you have also seen what Schreiner’s offers in all the luscious colors of German Iris. Iris does mean “ rainbow “ after all…! 😊
oh Its gonna be nice wiew,when they all are gonna bloom.I got myself a couple of siberian irises this spring,they called Sun groove,Pleasures of may,Roaring jelly,Ever again.Still want a white and yellow so bad.What I love about siberian irises is their structure and healthy leaves,they really stays good.But love much more simple flowers not that wide ones,which I believe has more chromosomes? I do recommend you to try grow Iris graminea,its absolutely cute plant which has nice grassy foliege
I wonder how those Siberian irises would do in dry Colorado since you're recommending them for wet areas. Lots of people have irises, but I haven't seen any Siberian varieties where I live.
How much of a problem are ticks there? Does your deer fence allow foxes to get through? It seems like the best way to prevent ticks will be the return of the apex predators.
The ones with 40 chromosomes generally come from the "Sinos" which are typically the following genera: I. bulleyana, Iris chrysographes, I. clarkei, I. delavayi, I. forrestii and I. wilsonii. The ones that are bred for 28 chromosomes are typically: I. sanguinea, I. sibirica and I. typhifolia.

The best thing about irises is they make more irises. Self propagation FTW!
Some irises can be invasive. Yellow near water is a no-no.

When you plant the coconut pots, be sure to rip the edges down to the soil height, they tend to wick moisture away from plant.
